It is our great pleasure to present to you, our entry for this years ZX DEV competition: RetroForce. RetroForce is our personal homage to every great vertical shoot-em-up game that we enjoyed playing as kids, but particularly, a homage to the StarForce/MegaForce arcade game. Our version has obvious differences from the original game, but we hope that it captures something of the frantic, and tense essence of that great game through its playability, fast pace and enemy movement patterns. We hope you enjoy playing this game as much as we enjoyed composing it... Here is to another productive "Spectrum Year", which once again proves that the spectrum community is still alive and well. We eagerly look forward to playing the rest of this years entries as they begin to appear!! With Regards, Climacus & KgMcNeil 2017 Download is here: RETROFORCE

Congratulations! The game looks great, as if it had been done a few decades ago by a professional company. I have been playing and it moves smooth, although I am somewhat clumsy in this type of games. Fantastic job!

Nice work, guys!
But what is the real title of your game?
RetroForce (like in english version of latest post), Retroforce (like in Spanish version) or Retro Force (like in manual)?

Managed to play it for a while tonight, and its really impressive, soo smooth and fast, unbelievable! Graphics are also well worked and the type of tunes really fit with the coin ops of the mid 80s. High difficulty but it keeps you hooked, addiction and the factor of another go before stop playing it! Maybe the only thing that could be a bit too hard to handle is the speed of some enemies, which can cause sometimes a bit of frustration, but in general, this is an Ace entry Congratulations

Stop the production line! The SpectrumNext needs a new feature - 1.77 MHz mode.
I'm glad there is a plentiful continue option, it's allowed me to reach Delta on my first go.
Great graphics, well designed and coded, you two make a great team.

Superb game. It is already one of my favourite shoot em ups for the spectrum (I was a big fan of starforce). There is only one suggestion I have. That is to use dark blue as the background colour for the panel. At the moment as the panel is black and so is the playfield you can sometimes move towards the black parts of the screen to avoid an enemy and find that you have hit the invisible black border for the panel (This is noticeable in the bottom left and a little in the bottom right) Hopefully it will be an easy thing to tweak.
Excellent, thanks again for such a great game.

Good suggestion Qatmix - Ill note that for the next project... I was going for a particular look/style when I designed the UI panel, but this is one of those circumstances where appearance interferes with game-play... Feedback noted!!!!

For those who think the game is too hardcore, hikoki from WOS has pointed me to a link to a Russian forum where source code patches exist to slow the game down... Still not sure what I think about that really, since we wanted the game to move FAST and with patience and practice, enemy attacks can be anticipated and countered... Even so, here is the link he pointed to, for those who are interested: zx-pk.ru/threads/28257-retroforce.html?p=933032&viewfull=1#post933032
